So you’ve mastered the skill of wearing a crop top last year when the trend was everywhere last spring/summer season. When you live in a place where the climate is cooler and sporting just the crop top without a jacket would mean suicide, you need a crop top’s partner in crime – the crop jacket.
Crop jackets were favored by street style bloggers and fashionistas this past fashion week season. They came in structured shapes or in funky, color furs. The benefit of wearing a crop jacket with your crop top? You immediately look a lot taller since your waistline moves up visually by about 5 inches – giving off the perception of daddy long legs (no girl would dislike that!)
So what are some options for you to sport this look? Here are a few example from Pinterest on The Fashion Spread.
The first one is a structured, boxy crop jacket paired with high waist pants. When you pair crop tops with high waist bottoms you immediately create the perception of much, MUCH, longer legs.
A white structured crop jacket paired with high waist pants = crazy long legs.
The second example is of a crop fur jacket in emerald green. We love the color and how she paired the look with a basic black turtleneck. This creates the perception of a longer neck and longer legs – a head-to-toe leaner silhouette. We would add a statement necklace to the look for more style oomph!
We love this emerald jewel green crop fur jacket.
We have to say we were in awe of the color pairings from the designs for the Bally FW ’15 RTW collection.
Amongst the colors were forest green, radiant orchid purple, mustard yellow, and passion fuchsia. We see more designers infusing elegant pieces with bright, show-stopping colors and it definitely encourages us to wear more color to work with these feminine pieces.
Timid about wearing too many bright colors in one outfit? Start with one colorful piece and the rest of your outfit in neutrals. For example, bright pink pants or skirt with a white t shirt and gray blazer.
J.Crew Holiday Catalog – Mix red and green.
J.Crew Holiday Catalog – mix green and orange.
We came across the J.Crew’s holiday catalog on this Refinery29 article and thought “Awesome! This would be perfect to use as pointers to show our readers how to wear colour!”
Our #onetipwonder for the day? Don’t be afraid to be bright and bold because it just works! We love how the J.Crew holiday catalog worked colours like orange and green together, and primary colors like red and green in one outfit (brilliant for Christmas!).
They say the golden rule on how to wear colour is to not go beyond 3 colours in one outfit – we do agree to a certain extent – especially for those of you starting out experimenting with color. Like our motto, we believe in what works for you and not what’s in trending, so as long as you are confident in pulling off the outfit, go ahead! Try it! Wear it with a smile on your face!
Happy colour mixing!
